We were all excited to go celebrate the National Day at Esplanade (Padang Kota), Penang on the Saturday, 31st August 2019 morning, as per stated in the government website and few other website.
But once we arrived there, we saw the road was way too clear and quite for a long weekend holiday in Penang, let alone to have a Merdeka celebration. Then we remembered that daddy said the notis penutupan jalan is for Butterworth. So we checked on Facebook and other social media updates - yes - the celebration was done in Butterworth, not Esplanade. ðŸ˜
I was so frustrated for the fact I stayed up to sew their t-shirts to go for the national day marching and celebration. So we ended up go to have our breakfast (again) at Roti Canai Jalan Argyll and brought the kids to the playground instead.
Few days later, Daddy said his colleague informed that there would be a national day celebration for peringkat daerah Kulim, Kedah. The colleague happened to be part of the marching with his silat team.
Yayyy! I was so happy to know that and there we were - on Sunday morning wearing our Jalur Gemilang themed clothing, holding to the flags at the Dataran Kulim.
Balqis' favourite transportation - the fire trucks! She was so excited!
After the perbarisan, the were choirs sang national and patriotic songs like Jalur Gemilang, Keranamu Malaysia and of cos, Tanggal Tiga Puluh Satu. We had fun singing them together. I mean, me especially lol!
Daddy with his officemate, Hasrul
Besides the marching from many organizations, schools and NGOs, there were also traditional games competition such as tarik tali, congkak and sepak takraw and laksa cooking competition.
Merdeka Clock Tower, Kulim.
Too bad the Kulim Merdeka Clock Tower area was not kept well and maintain properly. The water fountain around it was full of rubbish and dirty.
After the merdeka celebration, we went to have our brunch at Kulim McDonald's. Give the chance for the kids to play at the indoor playground while we hang out and quench our thirst and fill our empty stomach.
Thank you Pak Lang and Mak Lang for joining the bees!
I remember growing up, mom always brought me to Dataran Merdeka for national day celebration and I loved it so much. Wish I could bring them to a bigger celebration next year. Penang state celebration, maybe? (Semoga tak salah info lagi) or better yet, the national level celebration.
With all the racism and hatred here and there - I will try my best to instil the patriotism spirit in my kids since they are young.
Check out this video too to join our fun celebrating the national day!
Merah putih biru kuning, jalur semangat kami semua! 🇲🇾
Till next year!
