Local Western Food @ Terlioq Pasta Sandwiches, Tanjung Tokong, Penang

Terlioq Pasta Sandwich is located at Kompleks Desiran Tanjung, Tanjung Tokong, just a few stalls away from Nazeerra's Kacang Pool Penang. Well, as other stalls there, the Terlioq Pasta Sandwiches stall is also small and if you see, you might find it biasa-biasa je. And you may also just pass by without wanting to give it a try. But wait till you see the menu, they serve bukan biasa-biasa okay.

Terlioq Pasta Sandwich serves variety of pasta and sandwich, of cos. Owned and cooked by a Muslim, so, halal pasta oh yeah!

Actually, a family member recommended us to try this stall and she said it's their family's favourite whevever in town.

The Table Penang, Lebuh Carnavon, Georgetown

I've been stalking The Table Penang Facebook and Instagram for quite some times and been asking husband to bring me there. But since it is located at Lebuh Carnavon, which is really in the middle of the town with very limited car park area, and only open at night, we have never had a chance to pay a visit.

The Table Penang which is located at 27, Lebuh Carnavon, is a small cafe just before the junction. Is is in a walking distance from Masjid Kapitan Keling. The cafe is one of the few halal cafes serving western food and coffee in Georgetown.

So anyway, a few months back, we finally got to go to The Table Penang yayy! And yes, we have to make few rounds to find a place to park the car and finally got to park near the diner, after I almost give up and tell husband to just go home if we could not find a car park lol.

Penang Digital Library Phase 1 and Phase 2, Georgetown

Penang Digital Library is located at No. 135 Jalan Masjid Negeri, George Town, Penang, on the grounds of Penang Free School. The Penang Digital Library is a project supported by the Penang State Government. It was made possible through the collaboration from various companies including Keysight Technologies, Eastern & Oriental Group (E&O) and TIME dotCom.

The Phase 1 building was lauched back in October 2016. Penang Digital Library Phase 1 opens 24 hours daily.

However, it could hardly accommodate 80 people and was always crowded. That was why former chief minister Lim Guan Eng came up with the idea for Phase 2, which has seating for more than 500 people.

Really tall and long shelf at BookXcess in Gurney Paragon, Penang

So, have you heard about the newly opened book store with a really tall and long shelf?

It's the well know parent of the great Big Bad Wolf book sales, the BookXcess Bookstore now opened in Gurney Paragon mall, Penang!

Located at Level 7 and 8 of Gurney Paragon Mall, this is their 8th outlet and the first store out of the central region! The book store covers over 26 000 sq ft with countless numbers of shelves.

It is also an insta-worthy bookstore, trust me. Too bad I was too occupied with the kids that I did not get the chance to get myself captured for insta purpose lol.

City Walk 2019 In conjunction with City Day

We woke up early on New Year morning to join the other Penangites for the City Walk 2019. City Walk is an annual event organized by Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang in conjunction with City Day. This City Walk is me and husband's third time (after 2014 and 2017), Balqis' second time and of course the first one for Bilal.

What I like about the City Walk is that not like other walk where you just walk for few kilometres to get the medal. One of this walk objective is to let you know more about Penang generally.

Each participants will be given a passport with five Penang attractions or historical places, and you will get a sticker (previous ones were stamped) when you reach the places.

Nazzeera's Roti Bakar Kacang Phool Penang

I stumbled upon Nazeera's Roti Bakar Kacang Phool Instagram months ago and been asking husband to bring me there. Nazeera's Kacang Phool Penang has two branch, one is in the Penang Science Cluster, Georgetown and one is at Kompleks Desiran Tanjung, Tanjung Tokong.

We actually went to the Penang Science Cluster branch few weeks ago (or months?), parked our car a bit far and walked there (in the rain), dukung Bilal pulak tu and turned out they couldn't serve us as they were getting ready to serve lunch for participants of a program held at the Penang Science Cluster.

Yes, sedih kan? Should've updated the social media on that so we would not have to susah-susah go there. (Yes, we checked their IG before we came). They asked if we could wait until after 2pm or go to Tanjung Tokong. Mesti lah tak tunggu sebab tak tau nak spend masa kat mana, and dah lapar. And of cos tak pergi Tanjung Tokong sebab malas drive ke sana as we have things to do in town. So, makan je kat tempat lain.

But since the other day we were going to Street Quay at Tanjung Tokong, we decided to have our brunch at Nazeera's Kacang Phool Tanjung Tokong branch which is at Kompleks Desiran Tanjung food court.

Hippopo Baby Spa & Wellness, Queensbay Mall, Penang

Since I found out I was pregnant, I've always wanted to bring our future kid to the Hippopo Baby Spa and Wellness. All the photos and videos of the babies swimming happily are so cute! I was so happy to know that they were opening a branch in Penang.

So, last month we finally took Balqis for her first swim and massage session at the Hippopo Baby Spa, Queensbay Mall, Penang. Mummy got so overly excited! Yela... zaman mummy dulu mana ada benda macam ni kan... :p The visit was unplanned actually. We were on our way to Penang Island for just a weekend ronda-ronda when I suddenly remembered about the baby spa.  Asked husband if we should go, he said yes why not and quickly Google the spa phone number. Luckily there was still a free slot for my baby B for that day.

Hippopo Baby Spa Queensbay Mall branch is located on the first floor. Not sure which wing - can't remember - but it's near the Maybank area. We were welcomed with happy and friendly faces when we arrived. They introduced and explained their services and all. We then registered for a single spa session for Balqis. They were giving away gifts as a celebration of CNY and look what Balqis got..!

Yeayy lucky baby B! To be used for next visit!

The session started with a light warm up to get the baby started.

Raudhatus Sakinah and Julaybib

Last weekend, Team Syuhada of Kindness Malaysia (Penang region) went to Rumah Raudhatus Sakinah (RS) in Sungai Bakap, Penang.

Raudhatus Sakinah was established as an institution that provides shelter and counselling to victims of teenage girls that are mostly the victims of social illness such as abuse, mistreatment, neglect, psychological stress, rape, incest and so on. RS tries to help teenagers who are involved to boost their self-confidence and their ability to become a useful person to society and religion.

RS has been in operation since August 1998 under the operation of the Wanita Pertubuhan Jamaah Islah Malaysia (WJIM). RS is an ongoing project to help people deal with social problems, especially among teenagers. RS has officially registered under the Care Centre Act 1993, the Social Welfare Department.

The RS home in Penang was opened in 2007. Besides Penang, RS shelters are also available in Sungai Buloh (HQ), Kelantan, Johor and Kuala Lumpur.

Lucky iPad Mini

The Camera Museum, Penang did a lucky draw contest on the Facebook fanpage and the winner would get an iPad mini. I saw the post on their FB page somewhere in October and totally forgot about it. A day before the closing date, they post a final reminder for those who wanted to join. It was as simple as post your photo in The Camera Museum, and get minimum 20 likes to be eligible for the lucky draw.

So I looked for my photo when I went there, post in on their FB page, and spammed my family & close friends asking them to like the photo before the closing time. I had only few hours left! I think by the time the contest was closed, I only got like 21 likes. Just nice! But I was thinking - Please la they don't choose the winner by the highest like the photo got, or else confirm lah I won't get it. Hahaha.

Days past after the closing date and I totally forgot about it, until a FB notification came in - a cousin just liked the photo of me (yeah after the closing date). Then I remember, eh, have they announce the winner? So I checked The Camera Museum FB page and need to scroll down and down and down (they post photos on their wall like 20 photos a day - nasib baik lah beautiful photos :p) and saw......

Hiking up Bukit To'kun (Bukit Mertajam)

Husband and I had been planning to climb (more to jungle trekking, actually) to Pantai Kerachut at Penang National Park for quite some times. So as we decided to go last Sunday, husband made me go for a walk/jog every morning to warm ourselves myself up for the activity since last two weeks, since I have not been exercising for a long time. And my last hiking trip was to Broga Hill, Semenyih - that was in February 2011! Well yeah, good luck for me!

However, we found out that it was raining in Penang on that Saturday evening. I told husband that it was not a good idea to go hiking after the rain. It would be very slippery and all. But since we’ve already made up our mind to go hiking, I Google-d to find any hiking places in Seberang Perai instead and I found out about Bukit Mertajam @ Bukit To’kun. That place is really near to our home and we didn’t even know there’s a hill to climb! So we decided to go there the next day.

Bukit To’kun, or some people call it Bukit Mertajam, is located at Cherok To’kun in Bukit Mertajam. It is part of the Bukit Mertajam Recreational Park where locals bring the children for a picnic and swim by the creek. Bukit To’kun has two paths for hiking – the jungle track and the tar road track. Since it was drizzling before dawn at the area, we had to choose the tar track to avoid the slippery path, again.

Hijrah

Alhamdulillah... syukur for the rezeki given by Allah swt to husband and I from the beginning of 2013. We were given the opportunity to be His guest earlier in February. And now we've moved to a new home - the place we can finally call OUR HOME.

Kita hanya merancang, Tuhan yang menentukan

I've never thought I would move out from my lovely city of Kuala Lumpur. Been born and bred in the centre of Kuala Lumpur, I've always thought I would end up settling down there, too. It was like an unwritten rule - those who is going to marry me must be willing to move to KL. Hahaha. Well, that was the plan. But Allah has better plan for me. After 4 months living separately - me in KL while husband was in Penang - I moved to Penang to follow my husband (and my dream *wink*).

To make the decision to move here was not that easy since I am the only child and should take care of my single-mother who is still living and working in KL. But of course, as a wife, the responsibility towards the husband is more than the parent after we're married. After lots of istikharah and discussion with husband, we've decided to got us a place of our own here in Simpang Ampat, Penang earlier this year. And now we've officially moved to our new home.

Last few weeks were hectic weeks. With mum being hospitalized and the moving plan needed to proceed, I thank the in-laws very much for helping us setting up few things necessary before we move our thing. We're still setting up the house, doing this and that. I am so excited to do the gardening since I've never got the chance to do that before. I dont know if the plants will grow up well anyway, but still I have a lot of things in mind I want to plant. :p

So tiring but soooo happpyyyy! :D

Preparing the soil for my so-call garden :p

Will post lots of pictures of my plant (if it ever grow).

Yang dirindui di Penang

Last weekend I was requested by my supervisor to come and see him due to my unfinished thesis problem. As much as I was worried to go and think about my thesis, I looked forward to come to Penang for some reasons too. One of them was for its food. Yes, I am so much in love with Penang food and I've missed some of them since my very short trip to Penang like 3 months ago. So I decided to full fill my crave for Penang food and I made sure to check in Foursquare and counted the 'Yang dirindui di Penang #'. :P

Nokia N8 – Capturing Penang with the 12MP camera

Through these few days I’ve spent with the Nokia N8, yes there are few things that do not satisfied me. But, as a person who love photography, I’d say Nokia N8 is by far the smart phone with the best camera built.
Nokia N8 offers its 12 megapixels (mp) camera with Carl Zeiss optic, maximum aperture f/2.8 with xenon flash. The flash range is 3-3.5m for normal condition. The camera has the wide-angle capabilities of a 28mm lens which would be very convenience than the typical 35mm. The 1/1.83” sensor used in the N8 uses 1.75 micron pixels which, with its 12-megapixel resolving capability, results in a sensor larger than most compact digital cameras. The ISO range is ISO100 (default), ISO400 and ISO800.

In a video of Dr. Hubert Nasse of Carl Zeiss talking about the N8 camera module during Photokina 2010 in Cologne, he stated that the Carl Zeiss lens inside the N8 are made out of 5 single optical elements with complex shapes never seen before in large scale optics. This results in excellent image quality.

The camera function of the Nokia N8 included of some setting options like Scene mode, Self-timer, Colour tone, White Balance, Light Sensitivity (ISO) and the Face detection, which are mostly available in compact digital camera.

So, below are some untouched pictures taken with the Nokia N8. The 12mp size photos are in 4:3 ratio while the 9mp photos are in 16:9 ratio.

Lawatan mengejut Ayong, Paeh, Een & Aman ke Pulau Pinang

Nak kata mengejut, tak lah mengejut sangat. Memang dah ajak2 Paeh datang ‘teman’ Aman naik train ke Pulau Pinang, walaupun tak tahu kenapa mesti teman si Aman tu. :P Sekali hari Ahad masa Aman nak beli tiket, Paeh bagitau Ayong ngan Een nak datang jugak. Boleh kata last minute plan jugak lah. Diorang datang pun tak lama. Gerak dari Rawang Isnin malam, sampai Butterworth Selasa pagi. Selasa malam dah balik KL balik dah.

Yang bagus nya, ada 2 kamera, tp 1 pun tak bawak. Macam mana tah boleh lupa. Yang si Ayong pulak, ada bawak camera, tp memory card tak de. –___-“

So, sepanjang perjalanan mereka dari Rawang x tau la apa keadaan dalam train, tapi menurut kata Ayong, Aman sangat tak reti diam :P Pegi ambil diorg dalam pukul 7.20pg lepas tu naik feri ke Pulau Pinang.
Macam2 hal budak2 ni. Aman agak excited naik feri, ok! lepas tu dia cakap org lain plak yang excited. Haha. Sampai pulau, hantar Aman kat Sunway Hotel untuk event StartUp Penang dia, and kitorg pun beredar.

Memula pergi Gurney Drive lepak Khaleel untuk breakfast. Lepas tu, tak tahu nak pegi mana sbb awal lagi. Oleh kerana Een ada report lab nak kena siapkan, kitorg pun pergi la lepas McDonalds kat Gurney siapkan kerja Een. Dekat 4jam jugak oohh!

aIMAG0227 Datang jauh2 nak buat kerja. Sila bagi markah lebih ye, lecturer een.

Another well spent weekend in Penang

Yes, after a long time, I had my weekend well spent in Penang Island again. When i say ‘well spent’, it means more than just go to Penang for a movie and Starbuck-ing in Queensbay Mall or Gurney Plaza, ok.

Woke up not so early so i missed the chance to go to Taman Tun Sardon for ‘serabai’ breakfast. Yeah, I’ve been hooked up to ‘serabai’ since the first time I tried it during twin cousins, Ekha & Kaina and grandma were here.

So, went to the Rope Walk @ Lorong Kulit but nothing really attract my attention. Looking for Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck from the uncle that i bought Salina from, but he doesn’t have it. Oh but we saw IPhone instead. But didn’t ask how much would he sell. Then, had lunch at Astaka Selera Stadium, next to the Penang Stadium and near the Lorong Kulit.

Then we headed to Upper Penang Road for the Little Penang Street Market. Last weekend was the 4th anniversary of the voluntary street market, which opens every last Sunday of the month.

2010_07_25_8628 Since 1985!

After that, we went all over Penang (ok, not really. i was exaggerating :P ) to find cempedak goreng. Yes, I wanted cempedak goreng that bad since like weeks ago and I couldn’t find any in Parit Buntar and Nibong Tebal area. :/

We went round and round to some places in Penang and kept looking, till we found a small stall in a housing area in Jelutung selling the cempedak goreng. Wooott!! Marvellous! Then went to another place - which I am not sure what’s the name of the place, a new place by the sea - hang out there to have the wonderfully taste cempedak goreng. XD

2010_07_25_8640 2010_07_25_8641

Then, after we finished with the cempedak goreng, guess where we headed to?

My tour guide of the day ( yes, i retired of being the tour guide for the weekend ;p ) brought me to a place named Relau. Why did we go to Relau…? Well, in Relau, there’s a place selling fruits on the roadside.

2010_07_25_8658

2010_07_25_8659

The one thing that i like about this place is you can buy the fruits and dine-in there. The place is really nice and clean.

2010_07_25_8657

And this is what we came here for………

2010_07_25_8646 Durian… woottt!!!

Now, what do we do after eating the durian? The old folks say, to prevent our body from the heat of eating durian, we should drink the water from the ‘pasung’ durian. And that’s exactly what I did. :P

2010_07_25_8648  2010_07_25_8654

After finished the fruit fiesta, we went hanging out in front of Queensbay area, watching the kite-flying here are there. Honestly, I’ve never ever succeed in flying a kite. But that was during the childhood. Never tried to fly a kite after i turned 17. Should really try it again some times – till I can finally make the kite flies.

2010_07_25_8662No. This is not a bird, or a Batman! This is a kite.

2010_07_25_8665The Penang Bridge.  Also, since 1985! ;)

2010_07_25_8667  2010_07_25_8700Well hey, anybody misses this? Err… i mean the satay ikan, not the brother. :P

2010_07_25_8706 Random. ;)

I really need a new lens. At least a new kit lens. Shooting with the manual focus sucks to the max! Gggrrrr!!

p/s: Thank you, tour guide of the day, for the cempedak goreng & durian!! You know you’re the best!!! :D

Jalan jalan lagi Yayyyyy!!!

24.11.09

Yayyy finally can update the blog with something after  a few attempts to update but totally out of idea. Went out with my not-so-little brothers Sally, Hadi & Nik on Friday but there is not even a single pict taken. Went to queensbay and had Kenny Rogers, had satay ikan (like the one kita makan time2 balik skola dulu tu), went to Feringhi Night Market and layan budak2 tu nak naik trishaw sebab x penah naik, then had Sup Hameed  and McDonald’s for desert. All in all what we did was eat and eat and eat. :D

And on Sunday i went out to Penang for some jalan-jalan activities. Went out early in the morning so I could start my day with the marvellous McDonald’s hotcake with sausage for breakfast. Yummy!!  DSC05222

Then went straight away to Penang and headed to the Lorong Kulit flea market. Oh btw, the bridge was opened at 10 a.m after the Penang Bridge marathon which started at 3.30am earlier that day.

I like going to the Lorong Kulit flea market as to see a lot of antique stuffs there. You can find almost everything there – old records, used books, shoes, clothes, bags, electrical stuffs, fruits etc.

Next spot – Penang Aquarium formerly known as the Fisheries Department Research Institute, Batu Maung. So unfortunately for me, the aquarium was closed for renovation :( but we can still see some fishes and turtles and starfish at the open pond area & the auditorium.

And then i went to the Wat Chayamangkalaram, Lorong Burma. It is a Siamese temple which was officially given its site by Queen Victoria in 1845. It was presented by Mr. W.L. Butterworth of the East India Company of Penang on July 22, 1845. 2009_11_22_40842009_11_22_4082

And why would I want to come here?

To see the 180-foot gold-plated statue of the reclining Buddha, the Pra Buddhachaiya Mongkul. The reclining Buddha represents Pra Buddhachaiya Mongkul, the historical Buddha, at his death. This symbolizes complete peace and detachment from the world. The Pra Buddhachauya Mongkul is one of the largest reclining Buddha in the world.2009_11_22_4064

A friend asked me why did i go inside a temple. Is it ok? Is it against the Islamic law? Well I am not good in Islamic law nor I can tell you what is right and wrong. All I can say is it depends on each individual. It’s not that I was going to pray or what.

Plus, didn’t Saidina Umar paid a visit to the Holy Sepulcher Church, the most important Christian monument of Jerusalem?

And  didn’t Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi pray in a church after they won the Crusade war?

Then again, it’s totally up to you, yourself.

Ok, itu selingan je ok. ;)

Lets proceed.

I would name my Sunday as a McDonalds day. Because I had McDonalds again for late lunch!! weeeeeee!!!!!! The Prosperity Burger ya’ll!!! Urgghh tempting tempting! Damn I’m starving now. Haha

DSC05228

And then, to Pesta Penang!

Pesta Penang 2009 started on the 21st November until 31st December. But I think it was not as crowded as years before. Maybe because of the raining season?

So that is how my Sunday went. I’m so gonna find other places in Penang that I should go.

Oh I know. here go the list:

  • Tropical Fruit Farm, Teluk Bahang
  • Peranakan Museum
  • Penang Aquarium (revisitn - sape suruh dia nak renovate2)
  • Kerachut Beach (turtle! turtle! turtle!)

(might as well be a long list after Googling ;p)

Hahaha suka suka je nak jalan tapi nak masuk lab sangat malas nak tulis paper sgt malas juga :p

New Moon is coming out in 2 days time!! I can’t wait it makes me crazy! Come to me, Edward. hahaha
